Final Words:With groundbreaking 2D fighting games like SamuraiShodown 4, Street Fighter Alpha 2 and X-Men VS Street Fighter blowing upthe arcade scene in 1996... let's just say it was difficult to be "drawnin" by Ninja Master's. Also, 2D fighter dudes, let's not forget 1996 was the year Soul Blade released on PS1. Another hugely influential title. I suppose if you didn't acknowledge or playthe aforementioned games, perhaps you might've been far more impressed byNinja Master's than I was. Objectively, Ninja Master's isn't a completely terrible game, from its most flattering angle, but it certainly doesn't hold a candle to any Samurai Shodown title of the era... and there's 4 great games to pick from in 1996, so pick one. Not to mention, The Last Blade was released less than a year after NinjaMaster's... again demonstrating the inferiority of this game. "But 5.2is pretty low, Frank... is the game that bad?" No. Not really. It's just wack. Honestly,after playing many other 1995-1996 fighting games,it's preeeeetty tough to be impressed by Ninja Master's... on any level. Ninja Master's [sic] is set in feudal Japan, and tells the story of 10 unique ninjas who fight each other for their own personal reasons and the chance to defeat the evil Nobunaga and bring peace back to Japan.As expected for the genre, the game pits your selected character against a series of opponents in best-of-three-round matches, with your objective being to deplete your opponent's health bar with your basic attacks, special moves (triggered by specific control motions) and super moves (which rely on a power gauge). All the characters in Ninja Master's fight with their weapon of choice, but you can freely choose to put your weapon away and go mano-a-mano. This does not have a major impact on speed or attack power, but changes the movesets significantly, even changing the way basic attacks work.Uses 2D sprite-based graphics and features 1P or 2P vs gameplay.

I always had a weak spot for this one. It's a weapon-based fighter with ninjas for the Neo-Geo by ADK (Alpha Denshi Corp.) from 1996, greatly inspired by Samurai Shodown (1993), but different enough both in style and gameplay to be a very interesting play. This game does not use the Art of Fighting camera zoom, which I have come to dislike, so the graphics in NM has a bit more controlled look. The animation is very smooth, and the 10 characters are varied enough that you want to try playing with play with all of them. On the normal difficulty (4/8), I get all I can handle from the last 3-4 fights. In the end you get to fight Nobunaga yet again. How many times do I have to kill that dude?
